or veneers represent the least invasive method for changing the colour, shape and position of teeth. They enable maximum protection of the tooth substance and beautify the smile with minimal grinding or even without grinding at all. If the teeth grinding is necessary, it’s insignificant, around 0,5mm, and it’s important not to grind tooth enamel completely because cement binds the ceramic veneers with the tooth the best if there is still a layer of enamel.
Ideal target group for facets
are patients who have all of their teeth, more exactly people who don’t have crowns. In a case in that some tooth is missing it’s necessary to craft an artificial crown and then make the bridge. It’s not possible to craft a tooth facet
on a tooth that was already grinded for a teeth crown, but only a new crown. In practice, combining ceramic facets
and tooth crowns for teeth that it is impossible to craft veneers on is quite often.
Material from which veneers are made can be ceramic or composite. Composite veneers are made from the same material from which fillings are made and they don’t provide the same aesthetic results as ceramic veneers, they require more frequent corrections and don’t have a long life span. On the other hand, these veneers are easier and cheaper to make than ceramic veneers. Veneers made from ceramic represent the most perfect and aesthetically most acceptable solution for transforming the appearance of natural teeth. As we mentioned, ceramic veneers can be placed after minimal teeth grinding, or even without grinding (no-prep veneers). Whether there will be a need to grind the tooth depends from case to case, more precisely from the position and shape of the tooth before crafting the veneer, also from the desired tooth shape after placing the ceramic veneer.
Precisely for that reason it’s really important to make a detailed plan of therapy right after the first examination that will combine patient’s desires and real possibilities of the procedure. Sometimes fixed braces are used during the preparation for veneers so the teeth should be placed in the right position, because even though veneers can somewhat make up for the problems in positioning, veneer’s reach is limited to slighter irregularities.
At our clinic we have a vast experience in crafting ceramic veneers using CAD CAM approach in dentistry (computer 3D measuring and projecting) on a CEREC machine that enables perfect precision, top of the notch aesthetic results and crafting in just an hour.
Besides that, Digital Smile Design (DSD) software, that also falls into the family of computer assistants for dentist, enables us to show the final result to the patient even before the procedure starts. This type of complex planning isn’t necessary when there is only one tooth at question, but it gives amazing results when done parallel on multiple teeth.
Use of a DSD protocol means measuring and taking photos, software modelling of the future look of a smile and crafting models and temporary facets which serve as a basis for crafting definitive ceramic veneers. All of this is possible without teeth correction in the jaw only if it’s necessary to add tooth substance (closing the gap between teeth for example). If it’s necessary to grind tooth substance than DSD system is not applicable, and only a model is suitable for presenting the new smile.
Whilst working with a DSD system, as soon the patient is satisfied with the presented shape and position of teeth, it’s possible to start scanning temporary crowns and crafting definitive veneers on their basis. Preparing teeth for grinding is next – if needed. If not, no-prep veneers are used. When the teeth are prepared they are scanned with a CEREC OMNI CAM scanner and software modelling of veneers starts. After that a CEREC MCXL machine makes all the veneers and during that same visit to the clinic finished ceramic veneers are tried out.
Sometimes is necessary to add a colour to facets in the ceramic oven, that can take up a little time, with which the whole process is completed in two days’ tops, and the patient has the temporary veneers at disposal. The final phase is preparation and cementing finished ceramic veneers. Patient can continue with all life activities right after cementing, but avoiding carbonated soft drinks is advised for a few days.
The price of crafting one CEREC ceramic facet in Cvejanović clinic is 220 euros, and consultation exam is free.
